BRIAN CLOUGH

Legend English Manager:Brian Clough

"More an alchemist than a manager, he took the base metals of the likes of John McGovern and Larry Loyd and turn them into champions. Winner of the league at Derby and two European Cups at Forest, he transformed the ordinary with his extraordinary genius."
The Independent - The Ten Best Managers in British Football

Only in British football? If you ask my opinion, he is one of the best ten managers in the world, not only in Britain. Just lets take a look at todays managers, how many of them took a team from lower divisions, and turned them into a European champions? Can you think of a manager nowadays, who will manage a team in second division, then make them to promote first division, then make them league champions, then make them European champions? If you cant think, then just read the article. That manager is Brian Clough.

Brian Clough
                           Brian Clough

He was charismatic, cynic, outspoken, Mourinho's updated version! Although he was one of the greatest managers in England, he never managed the England national team. Why? Here is the answer of Brian Clough: "I’m sure the England selectors thought if they took me on and gave me the job, I’d want to run the show. They were shrewd because that’s exactly what I would have done." Sure outspoken, isnt he?

He was born in March 1935, in Middlesbrough, as the sixth of nine children of the family. He was accepting that Middlesbrough wasnt the nicest place in the world but he was saying ''But to me it was heaven". He left school in 1950 without any qualifications, and started his player career as a striker. He played for Billingham Synthonia between 1953 and 1955. After doing his National Service, Clough started to play for his hometown club Middlesbrough. He scored 197 goals in 213 league matches for his team. Then he signed for Sunderland and scored 54 goals in 61 league games. But his playing career ended when he was only 27, cause of a knee injury during a match against Bury. Two years later he tried to return, but he could play only 3 games more, then announced his retirement.

Clough had a successful, but interesting management career

Clough became a manager starting at Hartlepools United with Peter Taylor as his assistant manager from October 1965. At the age of 30, Clough was then the youngest manager in the league. In 1967, after guiding Hartlepools to a finish of 8th in Division 4, they had problems with the chairman, who tried to sack them. So Clough and Taylor joined Derby Country as manager and assistant manager. At those times, Derby was outside the top flight for long years.

In his first year Clough couldnt help Derby to get a better position in the league. But next season, he started to sign several new players like John O'Hare, Alan Hinton and Les Green. He resigned with 11 players, fired the club secretary, the groundsman and even two tea ladies cause he saw them laughing after a Derby defeat.
With the additional signings of Dave Mackay in July 1968 and Willie Carlin in 1968, Clough and Taylor's management led Derby to become champions of Division Two, establishing the club record of 22 matches without defeat on the way. Derby's first season back in Division One saw them finish 4th, their best league finish for over 20 years, but, due to financial irregularities, the club was banned from Europe the following season and fined £10,000.

During 1971-1972 season, Derby was in a close race with Leeds United and Liverpool for the title. Leading the table by one point having played their last match, a 1–0 win over Liverpool, Peter Taylor took his players on holiday to Majorca, where they learned that both title rivals had failed to win their final matches, meaning that Derby became champions for the first time in their then 88-year history. Clough was not with the squad at the time, instead holidaying in the Isles of Scilly with his family and parents when he received the news.

In middle 1972, Clough refused to on a pre-season tour with his team unless he could take his family with him. Derby Chairman Sam Langson told him that it was a working trip not a holiday trip, so Clough didnt go for the pre-season tour and stayed with his family. Instead of him, Taylor went with the team.
In 1972, Clough and Taylor signed David Nish from Leicester City with a record transfer fee without consulting the board.  So they got warned by the board and told that they are not allowed to sign players on their own. In 1972 Clough also attacked some Derby fans, blaming them that they support the team only when they win, not when they loose. Clough attacked the clubs board directors too.

Clough and Taylor

Derby finished the league in 7th position that season., but reached semi finals of  the European Cup. They knocked up by Juventus, Clough blamed Juventus team with being cheaters.
On 5 August 1973, Clough wrote an article in the Sunday Express which savaged Leeds United's disciplinary record, stating that Don Revie should be fined and Leeds relegated to Division 2. Days afterwards, Clough was charged with bringing the game into disrepute, but he was cleared after he had resigned from Derby. In September 1973, Clough travelled to Upton Park and made a £400,000 bid for Bobby Moore, a player he admired, and Trevor Brooking. But Clough never told the Derby board about the bid. Derby Chairman Langson found out about he bid after four months, he wanted to sack Taylor and Clough, but couldnt get the support that was needed to do so cause of the 1-0 victory against Manchester United in Old Trafford.

In 1973, Clough and Taylor demanded the resignation of the board, but instead of that they had to be the ones who resigned from the club in October 1973. That day, Clough appeared on a TV show and attacked footboll directors.

After that Clough and Taylor signed Brighton & Hove Albion, a Division 3 club, but could win only 12 of 32 games. Only 8 months before he was managing a team playing against Juventus in European Cup semi finals, he was now manaing a team which was struggling in Division 3.

Clough's 44 day long Leeds United adventure

Clough managed Brighton & Hove Albion less than a year. In 1974, Leeds United manager Don Reive left the club to become manager of England. Brian Clough became the new manager of Leeds United, but this time his long time friend and assistent Taylor did not join him.

Media and fans were surprised with Cloughs move to Leeds, cause he was knows with his criticisms about Leeds United, Don Reive and his tactics. He had problems with star players like Johnny Giles, Norman Hunter and Billy Bremner. He could win only 1 match from six games and became Leeds United's least successful permanent manager. In September 1974, he was sacked by Leeds board.

Nottingham Forest-From down to top

Clough signed with Nottingham Forest in 1975. Clough's first game was against Tottenham in F.A. Cup, and Nottingham Forest won the match 1-0 with the goal of Neil Martin. That season Nottingham finished Second Division on 8th position.
In 1976, at the begining of the new season, Peter Taylor joined Clough's Nottingham Forest. Two friends started to work together again. That season Notthingam Forest finished 3rd and won promotion to Division One.This made Clough the first manager since Herbert Chapman to win the English League Championship with two different clubs.
In February 1979 Clough signed the 24-year-old Birmingham City F.C. striker Trevor Francis - Britain's first £1 million footballer—although Clough insisted that the fee was actually £999,999 and tax brought it over the £1 million mark.
That season they finished the league as runners-up to Liverpool, but won the European Cup with a 1-0 victory against Malmö FF in the final. One year later, in 1980, Clough's Nottingham Forest again won the European Cup, beating Hamburger SV in the final.

Clough's team made a record breaking unbeaten run between 26 November 1977-9 December 1978. The team went undefeated for 42 league games (but a month before Clough's death in 2004, Arsenal broke the record 49 league games without defeat).
With Nottingham Forest, Clough won 9 trophies. He won the European Cup twice, won the European Super cup once in 1980, won the League Cup for 4 times and became champions in First Division and Charity Shield in 1978.

John Robertson
Forest players celebrating the victory

Clough's relationship with Peter Taylor, his friend and long-time assistant at Derby, Brighton and Forest, was damaged permanently in May 1983 over the transfer of John Robertson. The two fell out when Taylor, who had retired in May 1982 but then become manager of Derby six months later, signed the Forest winger without telling Clough beforehand. Robertson's transfer was contested, with the fee set by a tribunal, although Robertson was injured soon after joining Derby and never found his form. The rift had not been repaired by the time Taylor died in October 1990, but Clough and his family attended Taylor's funeral. When the assistant coach at Forest telephoned Clough to inform him of Taylor's death, he did not say anything and put the phone down. He cried heavily after this and his bad feeling over the unreconciled rift increased Clough's already heavy drinking. Clough was never as successful a manager without Peter Taylor.

Brian Clough

Retirement and death of a legend

He retired as manager of Nottingham Forest in May 1993. He spent his retirement years with fight against his alcoholism, which was a problem for him since 1970s. In 2002 Nottingham Forest honoured him by renaming the City Ground's largest stand, the Executive Stand, the Brian Clough Stand. Clough was made an inaugural inductee of the English Football Hall of Fame in recognition of his huge impact as a manager.
After 30 years of heavy drinking, Brian Clough died cause of stomach cancer in 2004 at the age of 69.

After a long process of fund-raising, his home town of Middlesbrough commissioned a statue of Clough, that was unveiled on 16 May 2007.[32] Although there was a movement to erect a statue in Grove Hill, his birthplace, the site chosen was Albert Park, Middlesbrough through which he usually walked on his way from home to Ayresome Park, Middlesbrough's former stadium.
Derby Country and Nottingham Forest fans will never forget him...

THE DAMNED UNITED

The Damned United

A movie about Brian Clough's 44-day reign as the coach of Leeds United

The Damned United

The Damned United is a March 2009(UK) released sports drama film, directed by Tom Hooper and adapted by Peter Morgan from David Peace's novel ''The Damned Utd''. I dont know you watched the movie or not, but i watched. And i can say that, if you like football, you should watch this movie. Is this movie cool like other football movies like Green Street Holigans or Goal series? Well, i think this movie is better than both two, because it is based on a true story (Green Street Holigans also based on true events but The Damned United is much more about football).
The movie is about Brian Clough's 44-day adventure as coach of Leeds United.
In early 70's in England, Leeds United was dominating the leauge, they were the most successful club of the country, and the leauge champions. Their manager was Don Reive. At those times, Brian Clough was the manager of Derby Country, struggling near the bottom of the Second Divison.

Leeds players and Clough
Leeds players didnt like Clough much

In 1967 these two teams match in FA Cup. Brian Clough assumes Dan Revie to be a similar man to himself, owing to the fact that they grew up in the same part of Middlesbrough. However on match day, Revie either ignores Clough or fails to make him out in the crowd upon entering Derby's Baseball Ground stadium. The match proves to be a tough affair, and despite their best efforts Derby lose 2–0 to Leeds. Brian Clough initially blames the brutality of the Leeds players, but he and his assistant manager Peter Taylor recognise that their side simply aren't good enough on a technical level and so remedy the problem by signing veteran Dave Mackay, along with several other young players. The club's frugal chairman, Sam Longson is extremely anxious about the investment and more so the fact that  Clough didn't bother to consult him about signing Mackay. However, Derby win the Second Division title in 1969, and the following season once more face up to Leeds, the defending First Division champions... and promptly lose 5–0.

After this match, Clough targets himself to get in First Division so that they can have a match with Leeds United and take revenge, and be more successful than Dan Reive. Clough gets what he wants, Derby becomes the Second Division champion, promote to First Division and beat Leeds United 2-1 in a league match. Only a few years later, Clough makes his team First Division champions too, by the help of his luck.

Michael Sheen as Brian Clough

Meanwhile, Clough starts to have problems with the chairman of Derby Country, Sam Longson. Longson starts to give directions to Clough about how to manage the team, and despises Clough telling that chairmen are more important than managers in the world of football. After this situtation Clough resignes from his job with his best friend and assistant manager Peter Taylor.

Subsequently, Clough and Taylor are offered jobs as manager and assistant respectively of Brighton & Hove Albion, and they agree to take the jobs after having a holiday in Majorca which Brighton's chairman pays for.
During their holiday England fails to qualify for the 1974 World Cup, England manager Alf Ramsley gets sacked and replaced by Leeds United's successful manager Don Revie. So Leeds board offers Clough to take the place of Don Revie's place at Leeds United, and Clough accepts the job. But Taylor on the other hand, prefers the prospect of Brighton, knowing that whatever Clough achieves at Leeds it will still be with Revie's team, and after a fierce argument the two go their separate ways, with Clough taking over at Leeds and Taylor becoming Brighton manager.

Dan Reive signing for England
     Colm Meaney as Dan Reive

Without his long time assistant, what can make Clough at Leeds? Starting from his first day of his new job, Clough has problems. Leeds players dont respect him, and dont listen him on the pitch. And Leeds makes a terrible start in the leauge...This movie, is about these 44 days that Clough spent in Leeds, of course with flasbacks to his days with Taylor and Derby Country.

Clough working for Leeds

I'm not sure all the events in this movie is real or not, first of all it is true that Clough had very successful seasons with Derby United, became Second Division champion and promoted to First Division, became leauge champions and played in European Cup but lost 3-1 to Juventus in semi finals. But i dont think it is totally true that he had personal problems with Dan Reive, and i am not sure he was really jelous of Reive or that Leeds players didnt respect and listen him.

Brian Clough 1935-2004For example Clough's widow, Barbara Clough, who was already an outspoken critic of Peace's book, expressed disappointment that the film was being made. On the implication that it would be similar to the book, she said "It's going to be pretty dire". Nigel Clough (son of Brian Clough), says he has spoken to people within football who have told him the film bears no resemblance to what actually happened. Also The publishers of the novel were successfully sued by Irish midfielder Johnny Giles (played for Leeds in 60s and 70s) wrote, "Many of the things Peace talks about in the book never happened and for that reason, I felt it necessary to go to the Courts to establish that this was fiction based on fact and nothing more."

SPORT-SERIE A IS GOING DOWN?

What is happening in Serie A?

Serie A, one of the top 3 leagues in the world, or not anymore?

Once upon a time Serie A was the best league in the world, Italian clubs were dominant in all the major football competitions and winning serious numbers of thropies. Not only on the pitch, they were the best at capturing the top transfers in the market too. They had all the money to buy any player they wanted, and all players were looking forward to play in Serie A.

  Henry played for Juve
Marco Van Basten, Roberto Baggio, Thierry Henry, Didier Deschamps, Gabriel Batistuta, Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane and much more top class players were playing in Serie A, and Serie A was much more interesting to watch. And the league competition was much tight and harder, not only 2-3 clubs were competing for the title, at least 5-6 clubs were doing their best to get Scudetto.

For example lets think about Parma FC, they finished the Serie A in second place in 1997, they won the Italian Cup and Italian Super cup in 1999, and they even won UEFA Cup in 1999. They were one of the dominating clubs in Italy, but now? Because of economical problems they had to play in Serie B in 2007-2008 season, and now they are back in Serie A. But sure, they dont have the same potential to win cups like they were used to win before, and they dont have top class players anymore like Gianfranco Zola, Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro, Hernan Crespo or Adriano.

Parma won the UEFA Cup in 1994-1995 season

Why Italian clubs started to get weaker? Why Serie A not so interesting anymore? Everything started with the Serie A Scandal during 2006, and continued with the financial problems till now.
Now best players dont play for Serie A clubs anymore, or they leave Italian clubs and transfer to England or Spain. And Italian clubs arent so successful anymore in Champions League and UEFA cup. The last European Cup won by an Italian Club was UEFA Super Cup in 2007 (AC Milan).
Competition in Serie A? Unfortunately destroyed...Only 2 or 3 clubs compete to win the league now, but what does it matter? For 4 years Inter is the champion. It seems like Serie A lost its excitement too.
Pavel Nedved, Vincenzo Montella and  Luis Figo declared their retirement. Successful former AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti left the club and started to work for Chelsea.

Ibrahimovic and Kaka left Italy

And lets take a look at good players who left Serie A: Former Roma player Alberto Aquilani now plays for Liverpool. One of the best strikers in the world, former Inter player Zlatan Ibrahimovic is now wearing Barcelona shirt, but Maxwell is  still his team-mate, because Inter sold him to Barcelona too (Now Inter have only one option for left-back position: young player Davide Santon. But Barcelona have two top class left-backs now, Abidal and Maxwell. And they are in the same group in Champions League).

Ibrahimovic with his new Barcelona shirt

Genoa's experienced defender Matteo Ferrari moved to Besiktas. Andriy Schevchenko's loan at AC Milan finished, he went back to Chelsea, but then he signed with his former club Dynamo Kiev.
AC Milan sold Kaka to Real Madrid for around 86 million €. Everybody was thinking that talented young player Yoann Gourcuff will take his place in the first eleven of Milan instead of Kaka, but AC Milan sold him too. Milan earned around 14 million € from this transfer, but lost a very good player. Now Gourcuff is playing for Bordeaux, where he again played last season as a loaned player.
Everybody was excited when David Beckham moved to AC Milan as a season-long loan. With the help of Beckham, Serie A could again get interesting and take attraction, but unfortunately in the begining of this season Beckham's loan finished and he went back to L.A. Galaxy. Finally, talented young midfielder Kuzmanovic moved to Stuttgart from Fiorentina, and Fiorentina got 8 million € from this transfer.

Kaka now plays for Real Madrid

Of course Italian clubs bought players too, but if we have a look to the amount of money that Italian clubs spent for transfer, we can see clearly how Serie A clubs are having financial problems.
Who spent more money in transfer market in this season? Sure, Inter. They spent around 83 million € for new players this season (including Sneijder's transfer). After Inter, FC Genua spent around 56 million €, then Juventus with 46 million €. But although Inter spent 83 million €, Inter made profit in transfer market, they earned 90 million € with the players they sold. And who made the biggest profit between Serie A clubs? Of course AC Milan, they earned 71 million € in transfer season, and spent only around 18 million €!

If we compare the most expensive transfers of Serie A, Premier League and La Liga, we can see the difference of these top leagues. The most expensive transfer of Serie in transfer season is Diego (from W.Bremen to Juventus), for 24,5 million €. Secondly, Felipe Melo's move from Fiorentina to Juventus, for 20,5 million €. And at third place, Sneijder's move from Real Madrid to Inter for 15 million €. So the amount of most three expensive transfers in Italy makes 60 million €.

Most expensive transfer in Italy this season - Diego

In England three most expensive transfers are made by Manchester City, they paid 35 million € for Carlos Tevez, 29 million € for Emmanuel Adebayor and 28 million € for Lescott. That makes 92 million €.
When we have a look at Spanish clubs transfers, the difference is unbelievable. The most expensive transfer in Spain was of course, Cristiano Ronaldo. Real Madrid paid 94 million € for him to Manchester United. Second expensive transfer was again made by Real Madrid, 86 million € for Kaka. Finally, Barcelona bought Ibrahimovic from Inter for 46 million €+Eto'o. These three transfers make 226 million €.

(too read about the first league match of Real Madrid please visit http://helloteenpedia.blogspot.com/2009/08/action-in-bernabeu.html)

It is too clear that Italian clubs are behind English and Spanish clubs as financially, maybe it can be the reason they cant compete with them in Champions League and UEFA Cup. They can solve this problem with having young talented players and giving more importance to youth academies, but they are again not as good as English and Spanish clubs at this (except Juventus).

What will be the Serie A's future? Well, lets just watch football and see...

QUENTIN TARANTINO

Who is Tarantino?

Are you a Tarantino fan like me? Maybe, but lets know more about this famous director and scenarist.

Quentin Tarantino was born in Knoxville, Tennessee (US) in 1963, so we can say he is young to be a very famous director and to have serious number of movies. Maybe he got his art skills from his father; because his father, Tony Tarantino was an Italian actor. His mother was Connie McHugh, who got married with a musician called Curt Zastoupil after the born of Quentin Tarantino. After this, Tarantino built a strong relationship with his step father.
At the age of 16, Tarantino left the school to become an actor and joined James Best theatre group. He wrote his first scenario when he was 22, named ''Captain Peachfuzz and Anchovy Bandit''. He also worked as a cashier in 1980's, in a video store called ''Video Archives''. Sounds not fun to work as a cashier right? But no, when he was working in this store, he met with Roger Avary, who he worked with later.

Tarantino was a lucky man, he also met with Lawrence Bender during a Hollywood party, and Bender encouraged Tarantino to write a film script. And the result? Reservoir Dogs! A very good, bloody robbery film!

After the success of Reservoir Dogs, he went to Amsterdam to work on his script for his new movie ''Pulp Fiction''. If you already watched the movie, you know very well why he went to Amsterdam...

His next movie was ''Jackie Brown, which he adapted from a novel of Rum Punch. Then he started to make plans to make a war movie (of course Inglorious Basterds) but he delayed this plan to make a new movie: Kill Bill. For Kill Bill Vol.1 and Kill Bill Vol.2, he worked with Uma Thurman, who he already worked with for the movie Pulp Fiction. But this time, different than Pulp Fiction, Uma Thurman had the leading role in Kill Bill movies, which she acted as a bride who wanted to take revenge from her old boss.

In 2005, he was the ''Special Guest Director'' in Sin City, which he directed a car scene with Clive Owen and Benicio Del Toro. In 2007, he worked as scenarist and director in the ''Death Proof'' part of the movie Grindhouse. And in 2009, he finished what he delayed and made his movie which tells a story happening during second World War: Inglorious Basterds.

I know till now it seemed like a boring biograpy, now lets know something more interesting about Tarantino.

For example, Tarantino never advertise any product in his films. So, when a product is needed to be used, he always found imaginary names for the products, or used products which are old and already are not sold. For example Big Kahuna Burgers in Pulp Fiction.

According to Tarantino, ''The Good, the Bad and the Ugly'' is the best movie ever made.

He had an argument with Spike Lee because he uses the word ''nigger'' in his movies.
In his films, leading characters usually drive Chevrolet and Cadillac (i dont know why, maybe he made a contract with them).

In his films, you see the characters usually at the door, opening a door or closing a door. Also bags and suitcases take serious part in his movies.
In most of his movies there are scenes, which at least 4 characters point guns at each other at the same time.
In his movies, he likes to zoom in when characters do something with their hands.
In most of his movies, chacaters have nicknames (for example in Pulp Fiction; Honey Bunny and Pumpkin).

In his movies he usually takes a small role (Reservoir Dogs-Mr. Brown, Pulp Fiction-Jimmie Dimmick, Kill Bill-a dead gang member, Jackie Brown-default answering machine voice)

Pulp Fiction-Tarantino as Jimmy Dimmick

There is usually a toilet scene in his movies. Just remember the scene in Pulp Fiction, poor John Travolta had to die in toilet!

He usually worked with actors like Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction), Harvey Keitel (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction), Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill, True Romance).

INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS

Tarantino and his new movie:Inglorious Basterds

Who doesn't like Quentin Tarantino movies? Well, i adore them! And i think everyone who loves cinema and movies like Tarantino, and his way to tell his story. Now, he is again on the stage with his new movie ''Inglourious Bastards'', and of course he again tells his story with famous stars like Brad Pitt, Eli Roth, Diane Kruger.

To be honest, i didnt watch the movie yet, but i would like to tell some about the movie so you can have an opinion before you watch.

First of all, something seems wrong with the movie name, right? Actually, the correct spelling should be ''Inglorious Bastards'', without an extra ''u'' in ''inglourious'', and with an ''a'' instead of ''e'' in the word ''basterds''. They asked about this to Tarantino on The Late Show of David Latterman, and he didnt explain anything about the missing ''u'' in ''inglorious'', but Tarantino said ''Basterds? Thats just the way you say it: Basterds!''. So it is just a spelling way of Tarantino.
(info taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inglourious_Basterds)

Story: During the second World War, in a corner of Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) tries to organize a group which is founded by Jewish soldiers, to retalite against the enemy. Raine's group, known as ''basterds'' by the enemy, takes the mission of damaging Nazi-Germany. With this target, they make a cooperation with a German actress and secret agent called Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger). All of them will meet under the roof of a cinema, where Shasoanna makes her own plans to take revenge.

Well, as i said i didnt watch the movie yet. But i hear that there are a serious number of people who didnt like the movie, but sure there are more who liked. IMDB gave a rating of 8.7 to the movie, and now it is the most searched movie in internet (info taken from http://www.imdb.com/chart/2000s?mode=popular). When i watch the movie, i will tell you more!

You can watch the official trailer of the movie here:

SPORT - ACTION IN BERNABEU

Real Madrid with new transfers

Everyone was waiting to see Real Madrid in action with their new and expensive players. How they will performance was always a question mark during pre-season, because they didnt seem like they became a team, sure it is hard for a club who sells and buys too many players. And their pre-season performance wasn't the only thing that was questioned, also how much money they spent this summer was always criticized. They bought Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United for 94 million €, Kaka from Milan for 86 million €, Raul Albiol from Valencia for 15 million €, Benzema from Lyon for 35 million € and Xabi Alonso from Liverpool for 35 million €. With other transfers like Arbeloa and Granero, they totally spent about 273 million €. Of course, this situation damaged the club and team balance, and they had to sell some players to decrease the number of players to 25 (as a rule for La Liga clubs).
As a solution for this problem, Real Madrid chose their Dutch players to sell. Robben left Madrid and made his move to Bayern München, Huntelaar moved to Milan and Sneijder moved to Inter. How much Real Madrid won? Sure, not even as much as they paid for Ronaldo. Then, would you prefer Ronaldo to these three players? Well, everyone has own opinion..
Match day came, and the new expensive stars was on the pitch. Not only football stars, because it was Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt who kicked-off the match.

Match: In the first minutes, Real Madrid dominated the match and Deportivo looked like they were playing a defensive kind of game. Real Madrid forwards had difficulties to find free space between Deportivo defenders. But in the 25th minute of the game, French forward Benzema hit a powerful shot between defenders, but the shot came back from the post. Raul picked up the ball and scored the opener.
After four minutes Deportivo won a free kick and Riki made the score 1-1 with his header.
To take the lead again, legendary Madrid player Raul was on the scene, he helped his team to win a penalty, and Ronaldo scored his first league goal for Real Madrid and Galacticos took the lead again in the match.

Deportivo tried to make to score level again, and they got what they wanted with Valeron's shot from outside the box and made the score 2-2.
But Lass didn't let Deportivo to get 1 point from Bernabeu with his terrific shot from outside the box, and gifted 3 points for his team.

First matchs are always harder, but honestly Real Madrid defense didnt give too much confidence in this 90 minutes. Maybe things will get better when Ramos will take his place in first eleven but it is sure that if Madrid cant find harmony, a tight season is waiting for them.
